Career Clinics: Should You Attend? If X Ray Tech Doesn’t Work

Do you need a career change or feel you’ve been overlooked for a promotion? We spend a large part of each day working, so making sure you are happy and feeling valued is vital to enjoying your working career. Whether you work in finance or customer services, every employee needs to be motivated!

Seek for Expert Advice

Whether you are fed up of the office politics, simply fancy a change or think it’s time you get to use more of your knowledge and experience in a higher position, every now and then, it is important to reflect on where you are now, and where you’d like to be. This is the easy bit, but the problem most people have is working out how to get there!

This is when it is time to get help from the experts. Seek out a company which is prominent in your field or the field you want to go into, and find out how they will support you during your career. Finance recruitment companies, for example, often offer clinics where a qualified advisor will look at your résumé and offer help, conduct interviews and give advice both on your mannerisms, work ethics and the answers to your questions, and find out about local vacancies you could be interested in.

If you are thinking about switching careers completely, they can also help you to find jobs which use similar skills and give you advice on the extra qualifications you might need, as well as telling you about the work involved in day-to-day duties at the job, and what your expected salary should be.

Get Skills Assessment

While the idea of seeking help for your career might be a frightening one initially, you’d be surprised how helpful it might be. A skills assessment can suggest careers you’d never thought about, and testing your interview technique is invaluable; it could pick up on things you’d never noticed that could help you get the job.

If you love your old workplace too much to leave but still want to feel valued, you could attend a meeting to gain advice on your skills and expected wage, and use this information to negotiate a promotion or pay rise. It is surprising how effective having a third-party value your skills can be, and when your career is at stake, an appointment to make sure you are on track sounds ideal.

Take a Break

Don’t forget to take a few days off every now and then to let yourself recover from work stress and enjoy some of your hobbies. Everything can seem much worse when you are feeling pressured, and a break could see you return to work feeling much happier and more settled.
